Alcoholic detective Frank Keller is a divorcee in the midst of a mid-life crisis when he becomes involved
in a case focusing on a serial killer whose victims are drawn from the newspaper ads of lonely people seeking love.
In the course of his investigation, he decides to place his own ad, hoping that the killer will answer and he will be able to snag the suspect.
He goes out with several women while a colleague dressed as a waiter collects their fingerprints from their glasses.
None of them produce any leads, but he finds himself interested in Helen, who leaves their date but warms to him later.
He believes she may be the killer, but she never leaves behind any evidence he can trace
